Why Your Garage Door Is Noisy and How to Fix It
A loud garage door is almost always fixable in under an hour. Here's the checklist we use on every quiet-door tune-up.

A garage door that makes the whole house shake when it opens isn't normal — it's a sign that hardware is wearing out, hardware is loose, or both. Here's where to look.
1. Worn Rollers
Original-equipment steel rollers are by far the loudest part of most doors. Replacing all 10 rollers with 13-ball nylon rollers typically cuts noise by 50 to 75% and costs less than $200 installed.
2. Loose Hardware
Every hinge, bracket, and lag bolt on the door experiences vibration thousands of times a year. A 15-minute pass with a socket wrench tightening every fastener often eliminates rattles.
3. Dry Lubrication
Springs, hinges, and the opener rail need lithium-based garage door lubricant once a year. Never use WD-40 — it actually strips lubrication. A proper relube takes 10 minutes.
4. Worn Opener Components
Chain-drive openers naturally get louder as the chain stretches and the gear wears. If you've done the above and the opener itself is the source, a new belt-drive smart opener will be dramatically quieter.
5. Unbalanced Door
If the springs are weakening, the opener has to work harder to lift the door, and you'll hear it strain. Spring tension adjustment by a pro restores balance and quiet.
